Advice

Some industry advice for newcomers!

Network - talk with as many people as you can, actors, studio staff, wardrobe etc. This is an excellent way to meet people that could lead to more work. Offer to do some low pay or free work to build up your experience.

Photos - many photographers will pay you by giving you prints in exchange for fees. This is called "Time for Prints" and is a great way to build your portfolio without paying anything!

Film shoots - always be professional and arrive on time. You will have more chance of being booked again. You will meet other extras who will tell you of other work going on as well.

Amateur dramatics - think about joining a theatre or film group. This will improve your confidence and shows that you are committed to your craft.

Common sense

When you accept a job, tell someone you know where you are going. Take a mobile phone with you.

Be prepared

If you have a script to learn - learn it by heart! Turn up on time. Know where you are going, check the address and phone number before you head off to your assignment. Ask if you need to take anything.

Don't get disheartened

A big part of this industry is being in the right place at the right time! Don’t be upset if you are not offered work immediately. You may be contacted by agencies looking to take on new talent, we have no problem with this. Remember, it is always good to have somebody promoting you and putting you up for jobs.
